The library at St.Teresa’s Arts and Science College is computerized with library software  e-library solutions. The Library caters to the requirements of both the undergraduate as well as the postgraduate students.

LIBRARY RULES AND REGULATIONS

OPENING HOURS

8.30 AM to 4.30PM

Library will remain closed on all Sundays and Public holidays

ARRANGEMENT OF BOOKS

Books are classified and arranged as per Dewey Decimal Classification.

 

DISCIPLINE

  • Students without ID card will not be permitted to enter the library.

 

  • Explicit written permission from the principal is necessary for outsiders to use the library facilities.

 

  • If the due date for return of book falls on a weekend or short holidays, the book must be returned on the next working day.

 

  • Books should be returned within seven days of issue, otherwise 1 Rs. per day will be charged for each book.

 

  • Damages to the books or library facilities will be treated seriously and appropriate fine will be levied from the student.

 

  • Do not take any book or other library material out of the library without following the borrowing procedures.

 

  • Using mobile phones is prohibited, switch off your mobile phone & keep it in your bag, etc. While you are in the library.

 

  • Private conversations are not permitted.

 

  • All the students entering the library shall deposit their bags and other belongings at the entrance.

MEMBERSHIP

1.   All the members of the staff and students of the college are eligible to be members of the library. Books and other library materials are open for use and subscription only to the members of the library.

2.   Explicit Written permission from the Principal is necessary for outsiders to use the Library facility

Issue of Books

Users can borrow only a single copy of the same book.

Return/Renew

Books must be returned on or before the due date.

 

Reference Books

  • Reference books are not for issue and are to be referred inside the Library.
  • Under no circumstances shall reference books  taken outside the library.
  • Photocopying full book is not permitted inside the Library or campus.

DAMAGE/ LOSS OF LIBRARY MATERIALS

Ø When a member receives a book from the library he/she satisfy himself/herself that the book is in sound condition. If it is not, the matter shall at once be brought to the notice of the librarian, failing which the member shall be liable to replace the book with a new copy. Marking, underlining, writing, tampering and tearing away the pages of books are punishable with fine or replacement of the book or both.

Ø Lost books must be reported to the librarian immediately and replaced or paid for within 30 days

Ø Lost library books that are recovered, must be handed to the librarian as they remain the property of the college library

Ø If the books are lost, the borrower shall replace the books of the same edition or latest edition or pay as per Govt directives.

Final year students are required to return all their library books, and any outstanding dues, they should obtain no due certificate from the librarian before proceeding to collect the Hall Ticket.

EXCLUSION FROM THE USE OF THE LIBRARY

  • Any user who disregards the library rules and regulations will not be permitted to use the library anymore.
  • The library staff have the right to ask students to leave the library if they are behaving inappropriately or causing disturbance to other users.

LIBRARY SERVICES  

Library offers the following general services

(a) Lending Service

Lending service is the primary service of the library.  All the documents in the library are bar-coded. 

 (b) Reference services

 Library has collection on all branches of knowledge for reference.  The Library staff may be approached for any help in information retrieval.

 

(c) Photocopying service

A fully equipped reprographic facility with a copier caters to the copying requirements of users.  There is a facility for photocopying of library documents, which are not lent outside the library.

 

(d) Newspaper Clipping Service

Library maintains clippings from leading Newspapers on news related to the Institute. Library provides 4 newspapers.
